Artist statement

Marleen Huijing (The Netherlands, 1969) makes collages, drawings & installations. She combines vintage photographic media with coloring and drawing or makes collage-art. As a result, the work has a topical, but also a nostalgic character. Once in the two years Marleen works on Wearable Art: then a drawing or collage grows to a real manifestation in 3D.

Huijing is always wondering about the world around her: nature is inspiration. She is fascinated how nature arranges itself, how plants grow. Connecting or not.  Letting go.

Marleen Huijing (1969), Utrecht based visual artist, is always wondering about the world around her. Interesting foundings & nature are her inspiration. She is fascinated how nature arranges itself, how plants grow. Connecting or not.  Letting go. Mankind is just like nature. Marleen invites people to experience something as a reminder of an natural state. An aha-erlebnis. To connect.

a reminder of an natural state. An aha-erlebnis. To reconnect. Marleen places something that already exists in a diferent context. Bringing a new image and a different meaning arises. By connecting the separate elements, she also shares her inner world with the outside world.

At this moment Marleen is working on a new Wearable Art piece for WAAH 2018, making paper-collages and is contributing to this year's Sketchbook Project NY

Theme's are nature, surrealisme & reconnecting..
